Laura is passionate about people and creating change through collaborative solutions. Her background is diverse, and her path has led her to join the Ākina team as a Venture Manager.
While completing a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and a Master of Engineering Management at the University of Canterbury she was on scholarship with the Royal New Zealand Air Force. She enlisted as a Logistics Officer; during her six years of service she was exposed to roles in contract negotiation, process improvement and leading teams. Laura topped her military career off with a seven month deployment to the Middle East where she was the New Zealand Logistics and Executive Officer in support of coalition anti piracy and counter terrorism operations.
Her social enterprise journey began in a volunteer capacity with ADC Microfinance, a co-operative NZ charity, which supports skilled enterprising communities in Myanmar through micro-lending. As the Events Director she built the “Give Her Credit” network through various successful events celebrating many NZ social enterprises /organisations and entrepreneurial women of Myanmar. Laura is passionate about grassroots initiatives and motivated by the concept of empowering people to flourish and thrive through business prowess. She currently serves on the National Board of the YMCA as the Treasurer.
Laura is based in Wellington.
