Cain Kerehoma (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Muaūpoko)
Cain is Ākina’s Director of Māori Development, a position designed to enhance the organisation’s relationships with Māori and to lead the organisation’s strategic approach to supporting and empowering Māori economic, social, cultural and environmental outcomes through social enterprise.
Cain has returned to New Zealand after 4 years in Canada undertaking a number of indigenous development projects utilising his skills in project management, research and evaluation, strategic planning, policy development and training and facilitation. Cain travelled extensively throughout Canada working on a number of health system transformation projects aimed at improving outcomes for First Nations people.
Back home Cain worked on a number of kaupapa Māori initiatives across multiple sectors including health, education, local government, social services and community development. Cain worked extensively in the early stage development of the Whānau Ora initiative and worked with several provider collectives throughout the country.
Cain also worked for the Ministry of Education as a Policy Analyst undertaking Māori language education policy development.
Cain is based in Gisborne.
