Intro to Social Enterprise

Do you believe it is possible to run a successful business and make a significant positive impact on our world? Not only is it possible but we believe it’s essential for our future.  All over the world, more and more entrepreneurs and organisations are realising the opportunity to drive social and environmental change through sustainable business.  If that sounds like something you want to get involved in, join us to find out more.

Starting a Social Enterprise

If you’re starting a social enterprise or have a great idea you want to explore, find out how to give it the best chance of success with our ‘Starting a Social Enterprise’ workshop.  Taking the first steps with your venture can seem intimidating; you have a fantastic idea but are not sure what’s needed to get it started.  This workshop will give you the confidence to set the wheels in motion.

Come and learn the importance of purpose, explore how business modelling can help you design a social enterprise that works and find out how to test your idea to check that you are on the right track.

Meet other like-minded people, get inspired and find out how and where to start driving your venture forward.

Social Enterprise for Not-For-Profits

Many organisations are looking to grow income from trade or to create new social enterprises.  This workshop is for NFP leaders who want to explore the process and challenges of starting social enterprise.

This workshop includes both content delivery and practical work.  You’ll be in a room with other like-minded people, get inspired, and know how to move forward.

In this workshop you will:

  • Explore motivations for social enterprise
  • Learn from other NFP-led social enterprises, and
  • Know the challenges, opportunities and where to start.

Designing Social Enterprise Impact

Social enterprises are mission-driven organisations and measure their success by their positive impact. Many find it a challenge to measure and communicate that change.

In this workshop you will:

  • Define your purpose to anchor your impact
  • Explore what it will take to achieve your purpose
  • Find sources of evidence for impact, and
  • Create a basic model to show the logic of impact.

This workshop includes content delivery, facilitation and practical work. You’ll be in a room with other like-minded people, get inspired, and know how to move forward!

Legal Structure for Social Enterprise

What is the right legal structure for your social enterprise? What are the pros and cons of the different options? What about having a charitable status? Find out answers to these questions and more at our legal structure workshop.

This workshop will cover:

  • When a social enterprise needs to operate under a legal structure
  • The pros and cons of the more common legal structures for social enterprise
  • What charitable status means and how it might affect your activities as a social enterprise, and
  • The role of governing documents, policy and people in the governance of a social enterprise.

You will gain a full picture of what needs to be considered when creating a legal structure under which to operate your social enterprise. Meet other like-minded people and leave with a better understanding of the next steps and what services are available to support you.

How do you find funding and investment across the stages of your social enterprise? What funding is available? How might you plan to sustain and grow your activities? Find out answers to these questions and more at our funding workshop.

This workshop will cover:

  • The different funding options for social enterprise and where to find them
  • How different funding options suit different stages in a social enterprise’s development
  • How to secure different types of funding
  • Thinking long term and planning a strategy for sustainability and growth

You will gain an understanding of the types of funding your social enterprise may be able to access and what support services are available.  Meet other like-minded people and feel confident about the practical next steps towards securing funding.
